Casual Academic Teaching Opportunities, Semester 2, 2008
The Department is calling for applications from qualified, experienced and committed staff to participate in its Semester 2, 2008 teaching program.
Monday 9 June 2008 is the last date for receipt of applications.
Roles & Responsibilities
Convenor
All administrative tasks associated with a unit offering, including consultation with students on administrative matters.
Lecturer
Preparation and delivery of lectures plus all other academic tasks associated with the portion of the unit in which the staff member is lecturing, including setting tutorial exercises, partical or laboratory exercises, assignments and examinations, liaison with other staff who are teaching on the unit, and consultation with students about unit material.
Tutor
Interacting with groups of students in tutorial situations. You would normally work through the tutorial exercises with the class. Associated marking and consultation with students is involved. Each first tutorial requires one hour each of preparation, delivery and consultation and a repeat tutorial within seven days requires one hour each of delivery and consultation. No computer work is undertaken in tutorials.
Practical Demonstrator
Providing hands-on guidance to students in the computing laboratories on theoretical and practical problems associated with specific coursework and assignments. It could be anything from C++ to Perl to desktop products. There are many opportunities for practical demonstrator roles.
Marker
As you will appreciate, with many students, there are many assignments to mark. Marking involves assessing each student's work against the provided marking specification. Timely provision of results to the nominated Unit Convenor is required.
Professional Development/Induction Program
An Induction Program will be held for all new staff on Thursday 31 July 2008.
Remuneration
Work on all undergraduate units will be paid at the standard university rates per hour (ie for lectures, tutorials, practical supervision and marking).
