Short Description

COMP154 in the advanced version of a comprehensive introduction to information systems and their application. It focuses on how information is used in organisations and how IT techniques and concepts may be applied to improving business effectiveness. From 2005 this unit has been replaced by ISYS154.

Assumed knowledge

    Learning outcomes

    1. An understanding of the core principles and components of the Information Systems discipline.
    2. A realization of the difference between Information Systems and Computer Science.
    3. A recognition of how information systems can be used to improve business performance.
    4. An appreciation of the fundamental role of database technology in business information systems.
    5. An ability to design and create simple databases.
    6. An ability to program interactive SQL queries and produce database reports.
