Handbook Entry Unit Home Page

Short Description

COMP330 provides an introduction to 2-D and 3-D computer graphics and to window management systems.

Assumed knowledge

  1. Significant experience implementing algorithms using data structures and advanced programming techniques. (COMP225, COMP226 or COMP238)
  2. Experience with the C programming language or a closely related language such as C++ or Java. (COMP225)
  3. Exposure to basic linear algebra, including topics such as vectors, matrices, linear equations, vector spaces and linear mappings. (MATH133 or MATH 136, MATH239 possibly instead of COMP226 or COMP238)

Learning outcomes

  1. Practical experience in constructing special purpose application programs based on 2D and 3D graphics packages. At least one such application will involve animation in a 3D scene.
  2. An understanding of the algorithms underlying 2D and 3D graphics packages.
  3. An appreciation of the mathematical basis of the geometric transformations relevant to 2D and 3D graphics.
