Short Description

New in 2005. Replaces COMP123. ISYS123 provides a comprehensive introduction to information technology, including a range of topics from computing and information systems. Topics covered include hardware, software algorithms, productivity software, IS/IT planning, project management and e-commerce. The place of Information Systems within the broader context of Information Technology is examined as is the integration of information systems into modern organisations. Students are given a thorough grounding in computing environments and productivity tools, with a special concentration on spreadsheets and databases. In addition to this, students are introduced to a fourth-generation programming environment, such as Visual Basic, and its use as a means of extending database capability.
