Short Description
MPCE360 provides insights into five broad aspects of management systems: environment of management, organisations and their behaviour; management of human resources; project management and control, contracts, assessment, control and quality management; user interface management, training, documentation and industrial relations; legal issues and management responsibility.
Assumed knowledge
- An ability to relate theoretical knowledge of technology to its practical application in industry (note that no specific technical knowledge is assumed).
- Basic mathematical skills - sufficient to comprehend and apply elementary statistical techniques.
- The ability to work in a team.
- English proficiency sufficient to write comprehensible essays and business reports.
Learning outcomes
- An understanding of the basics of management (planning, organising, leading and controlling).
- An understanding of the particular business management requirements of high-tech organisations.
- An understanding of quantitative management techniques (e.g. decision theory, forecasting, inventory management and queuing theory).
- An understanding of social network analysis techniques.
- An understanding of systemic management techniques.
- An appreciation of complexities associated with working in a team.
