Starting X-Win32 and getting the Unix XDM login screen
The e6a110 and e6a112 lab PC do not connect to the UNIX servers, so X-Win32
is not used.
In the e6a121 and e6a123 lab PC you can connect to titanic using the X-Win32
program.
In the e6a114 and e6a119 lab PC you can connect to pompeii using the X-Win32
program.
We will use titanic as the example.
Start->Programs->X-Win32->X-Win32
The "XDMCP Select" dialog window will display (if
not look here)
In the "XDMCP Select" window double left click on the titanic
entry.
The Unix XDM login screen appears.
With Unix logins you have to use the Enter key
after entering each of the login and Password fields.
Do not use the tab key.
The password is not displayed on the screen.

Password: 240782#changeme
The titanic Unix (openwindows manager) screen is displayed.
xterm window
After a short time a xterm Unix command window will be displayed (if
not look here).
To expand the xterm window to the full screen height, Double Click in
the header (where the xterm label is located).
Move the mouse pointer to within the xterm window.
The cursor in the window changes to indicate that the focus has moved
to that window.
The command line has a default prompt of:
titanic:~: 1 %
where: titanic is the machine name; ~ indicates that you are at your
home directory; 1 is the command number; % is the end of the prompt
To terminate a Unix command use: Ctrl-C
(That is hold down the Ctrl key and press c)
Log out of Unix
To quit the Unix window:
Right Click in the blue desktop area
The Workspace dialog box appears
Left Click on Exit
In the confirm exit dialog box Left Click on Exit
The X-Win32 Unix window will close
Log out of Windows
Use Ctrl-Alt-Del and Left Click on LogOff
Confirm Yes to initiate the log off
Wait for the Ctrl-Alt-Del Welcome screen to appear
You must confirm that you have logged off.
Only in desperation should you switch off the power to the PC
Leave the PC and Monitor power ON - Please!
We have to do things with the PC after the labs close at night.
We can shut down the PC after that work is done.
