Fileserver
Claudius is the primary fileserver for all undergraduate user files.
It serves files to both the unix servers and to Microsoft Windows workstations.
It is a Sun Solaris server with an attached RAID array. Claudius
enforces student file quotas and is also responible for backups. Teaching
material is also hosted on claudius.
Windows 2000 Servers
There are a several Windows 2000 Servers supporting the windows domain called
student.ads.ics.mq.edu.au. The student domain is an Microsoft
Active Directory which manages all the user accounts (student and instructor)
and all the Microsoft Windows workstations. When a uses log into a computer
in a computer lab they are infact logging into the student domain.
These Windows 2000 Servers are also responsible for software distribution,
managing printing (incl quotas) and the Microsoft Windows based web publishing
etc.
Unix Servers
Titanic and Pompeii are the 200/300 level Unix servers, both
running Solaris 7. File storage for both Titanic and Pompeii
is on claudius. Student enrolled in 200 level units will have accounts
on titanic while student enrolled in 300 level units will have pompeii accounts.
ugmail.ics.mq.edu.au is the mail server for all undergraduate mailboxes.
Web Services
Web content associated with teaching is located on several servers. Material
hosted on Unix servers is published through www.comp.mq.edu.au while content
hosted on Microsoft Windows servers is published through teaching.ics.mq.edu.au.
Content published by students is on platypus (specifically for COMP249).
