User Accounts, Passwords, Email & Remote Access

Accounts

The accounts are created automatically and are based on data obtained from student enrolments and are updated daily. Accounts become available from the first day of the teaching semester or when your enrollment details are entered into the student enrolment system if you enroll late.

All ICS students enrolled in units that require computer labs are supplied with an ICS ID.

  • ICS labs are to be used ONLY FOR ICS SUBJECTS
  • Each account has a print quota based on the number of subjects which require lab access.
  • Sharing accounts are prohibited and will result in disciplinary action

All user names are in the form "s" followed by the first 7 digits of your 8 digit student ID. If your SID is 12345678 then your:

    username: s1234567
    password: ddmmyy#changeme
where ddmmyy is your date of birth in day (dd), month (mm), year (yy) format.

Please change your password as soon as possible. Use the Change My Password icon on the Windows Start menu in the ICS Computer Labs. Note that you should use a reasonable complex password!

Those enrolled in ISYS114 use an Oracle database which uses the Windows system for authentication and does not require a separate password. How to connect to the database is described in the ISYS114 web pages.

Students enrolled in COMP224 and COMP326 have a separate Oracle password which is set to ddmmyy#changeme initially. This password can only be changed from within Oracle SQL*Plus.

Email

All undergraduate accounts have an email address of the form:

    12345678@students.mq.edu.au

Email is delivered to student mailboxes and are accessable via a web browser.

Remote Access

Students have access to their ICS unix accounts from the Internet. Access to Titanic and Pompeii is by SSH.
