Using the E6A Computing Facilities
The Facilities
The Department of Computing provides a range of computing facilities to enable students to undertake the practical components of its teaching program. To ensure fair and equitable access to these facilities, the following usage rules have been established:
- computing facilities are only available to students for purposes directly related to their academic program
- scheduled classes take precedence over all other activities
- you are permitted to use the computing facilities in a laboratory even if there is a class being held, subject to: approval from the staff member on duty, not disrupting the class, and vacating the computer if requested to do so by a member of staff
- the laboratories are for work related to units commencing with COMP, INFO, ITEC, MPCE, and for the units SLP148 and SLP803, only
Usage Policy
This policy refers to the computing facilities in E6A110, E6A112, E6A114, E6A119, E6A121, E6A123 and E6A127.
Inappropriate Use
The facilities are provided to allow registered students to complete the practical component of a computing unit. You are not permitted to use the facilities for units not listed above (this includes printing material for those units), holding one or more machines for other students, or engaging in inappropriate or offensive behaviour. Note that all students involved in any such instances will incur a penalty.
Penalties for Misuse
Students found misusing the facilities will be logged off without warning and have their account disabled for a minimum of three (3) days. Second and further offences will incur more severe penalties, including being reported to the University's Disciplinary Committee.
Having an account disabled for misuse does not constitute grounds for late submission of any required work.
A record of all offences will be kept for the full period of a student's enrolment at Macquarie University.
Further Information
All students are expected to read and follow the University's Information Technology Security Policy and Rules.
