Unit Description This course gives an understanding of advanced topics in the design and implementation of computer networks. It provides an in-depth understanding of key protocols of the TCP/IP protocol suite and its relationship to emerging technologies. This course will allow students to develop knowledge and expertise in key areas such as intra- and inter-domain routing protocols, multicast protocols, different transport protocols, Quality of Service and multimedia. These concepts will be reinforced through tutorials and lab sessions. See the calendar for keys dates relevant to this unit.

. 20 November: Quiz 2: If you have not already collected your quiz, it is available from the Science Centre (ground floor, E7A). 18 November: Marks for assignment 2 have been posted to webct, and an email has been sent to student accounts with any additional feedback regarding the assignment. 9 November 2009 Past exam: A copy of past exam paper is now available in the exam section of this web site.
5 November 2009 Len thanks Rajan for repairing the WebCT submission for assignment 2. Note that the due time for WebCT submission is 5pm today, so you will be able to submit your files even after the server switches off at 11am today (which is the assignment deadline). If you have completed the assignment but have been unable to submit it due the the misconfiguration of WebCT, please contact Len by email.
18/10/2009 In your practical sessions please handle cables (especially serial cables) with care as they are prone to damage. This can not only ruin the cables themselves, but also negatively impact other components to which they are connected.
23/09/2009: A getting started guide for assignment 2 is now available. Part A is due 29/9/2009 so start now. The server records your completion of part A, so there is nothing to submit. Also, there are minor corrections to the assignment - the total weight is 20%.
22/09/2009: Assignment 2 is available. You have until Tuesday 29/9/2009 to complete part A, so get started now. This assignment is a substantial amount of work - you are expected to spend at least 18 hours working on it during the break. Only the best students will be able to complete this assignment in the time available, but you will find that it is fun and challenging, so get going now and enjoy it. Len

08/09/2009: Quiz : There is a quiz next week. The Quiz will be conducted in the tut slot. It is 30 mins in duration.
