Computer games are a popular form of entertainment with a large and growing industry devoted to their production. They are also used for educational and business purposes. With this growth has come interest in both the production and study of computer games. This unit provides an introduction to computer games, from both the design and analytical viewpoints. Topics covered include the history of games, the cultural and aesthetic study of games, the game development process and the use of games in education. The assessment includes a project in game modification (known in the industry as 'modding').
